Description:  Copper is needed for the formation of the antioxidant enzyme called superoxide dismutase.  It is also needed to make cytochrome c oxide which is used by the mitochondria to produce ATP.  Also, copper is involved in the cross linking of collagen and elastin to make strong and flexible connective tissue.  In addition, it is needed for neurotransmitter synthesis and proper nervous system function.  A copper deficiency can lead to anemia, poor bone formation, and neurological problems.  Doses in excess of 10,000 mcg are not recommended.
